Anah Reichenbach (Hoop Revolution)Los Angeles, California Foundation*Flow*FlairALL LEVELS WELCOME
In this special two session, 6 hour workshop, we will play with the three main building blocks of HoopDance; Foundation, Flow and Flair. *Foundation* Your foundation is the core. These days in hoop dance it is very easy to get enticed off the core by all the razzle dazzle flair. If you don't spend enough time on your core foundation, your freedom in your hoop will be very limited! Using highly specialized techniques, we are going to pull out all the stops and get your REALLY dancing on your WHOLE body! *Flow* Flow is where your heart sings. Its where your mind stills, euphoria bubbles and we find ourselves in "the Zone". Flow is the transcendent quality that you can't quite put words to.. It is unattached to skill level, age or socioeconomics. Get ready to find your bliss!
*Flair* Ok, now that we have our foundation and have found some flow, its time to add FLAIR! Flair is all the fancy schmancy tricks, combination and razzle dazzle of hoop dance. Flair is where we add our individual spark and signature to our Dance! Please bring two hoops, one that you are comfortable with on your body and a lighter/smaller one for off body/flair. Hoops will be available for purchase! Anne Humphreys (The Hoop Path)New York / Carborro, North Carolina Hoop Path Fundamentals
Ann Humphreys of North Carolina's HoopPath will teach two classes in Montreal. Each class will run for two hours. If your hoop experience, or 'flight time,' totals less than 50 hours, or if you have never attended any HoopPath class or workshop at all, we recommend you begin with the introductory 'HoopPath Fundamentals' class. This class, though an introduction, is no cakewalk--we will hoop hard as we explore and get comfortable with some of the core basics that are essential to this practice-oriented approach to hoopdance. Your practice will expand and flourish through becoming grounded in the core principles of Stepping, Turning/Stalling, Breaking, Reversing, and Paddling while the hoop spins around your core. You will need your core (i.e. large) hoop only for this class. Date: Thursday August 26th Time: 6-8pm Location: Circuit Est Centre Choregraphique, 1881 Saint-André Street #100 (corner of Ontario) Price: $50 Ann's MasterclassIf you have studied HoopPath before with Baxter or Ann, and/or your flight time exceeds 50 hours (a time frame which generally equals a practicable grasp of skills like shoulder hooping, angle hooping, and off-body hooping) then you are ready for Ann's Master Class, which will cover both core and off-body techniques. Concepts such as the Mother Current, Infinite Axes, Negative Space, Stitching, and variations on Weaving will be covered in detail. For this class we will use both core (heavier and larger) and off-body (smaller and lighter) hoops. If you use the same hoop on- and off-body, that will be fine as well. Date: Friday August 27th Location: Circuit Est Centre Choregraphique, 1881 Saint-André Street #100 (corner of Ontario) Price: $50
About AnnSince 2006, Ann Humphreys has studied hoopdance with master hooper and teacher Jonathan Baxter, founder of the HoopPath curriculum. HoopPath techniques such as Breaking & Reversing, Point, Swing, & Samurai, have significantly shaped contemporary hoopdance as we know it. The HoopPath was also the first curriculum to contextualize movement with the hoop as personal meditation, rich with transformative potential. Through Ann's apprenticeship with Baxter, she has not only mastered the HoopPath's wide-ranging and widely practiced language and techniques, but also found a unique voice and technical vocabulary of her own.

Hoop Technique
Dates: October 9th & 10th 2010 Time: 12pm-3:30pm Location: TBA Price: $140 The Hoop Technique Theory encompasses a broad range of hoop movement and vocabulary. We’ve oriented Hoop Technique theory around four key concepts: Space, Effort, Time and Flow. The focus on these four ideas was inspired by Laban theory, one of the most widely used systems of human movement analysis. These four concepts provide a framework for creative expression and expansion. This will increase awareness of what’s possible and available and, hence, encourage exploration. Each concept can be applied to any move and can be understood as a lens through which it can be examined and experienced. The concept of Space explores the relationship of body and hoop to the space we occupy while hooping. Effort refers to the quality of movement; the energy, emotion and tone with which we execute movement. Time relates to speed, acceleration, direction changes, rhythm, tempo and beat. Flow is the personal mastery of creative movement, our effortless transition from move to move guided by expertise, muscle memory and inspiration. Flow unlocks the bliss and transcendent joy of hoop dance. Rich & Spiral are based in San Francisco, California. You can learn more about them at hooptechnique.com
